The 114th release on Movement Recordings welcomes the Magnetic Brothers back to the label for a new EP. The Russian duo have become an integral part of the Movement Recordings roster in recent years. This marks their sixth appearance on the label with the excellent 'Act To The Right' being the most recent. Now for the label's 113th release we see the Magnetic Brothers stepping up for a brand new two track EP alongside remixes from Erdi Irmak and Stergios.
The Magnetic Brothers sound has always been quite varied and the lead cut here 'Hidden Sun' proves that once again. Perhaps best known for club friendly, vocal progressive numbers, 'Hidden Sun' goes deep and timeless with a bevy of great designs. Anchored by an irresistibly smooth groove, the Russian brothers work a lovely vocal motif and tonal themes into the mix. It's timeless qualities are undeniable, particularly during the main break with a tonal theme invigorating the senses. Classy sounding work from the Magnetic Brothers.
The lone interpretation of 'Hidden Sun' is provided by Erdi Irmak who is making his eighth appearance on Movement Recordings. The Turkish artist's productions are always quite unique; you tend to get the grooviness of deep house and tech house combined with the melodic sensibility of progressive house, with some cross-cultural motifs blended in from time to time. For his 'Hidden Sun' interpretation Erdi has explored the main themes from the original in a deeper, more atmospheric framework. The vocal elements and tonal designs get reinvented in the fresh environment and flourish during the main break with a laid-back, psychedelic flair. A percussive third act lifts the energy and vibe a step further while still retaining the contemporary elegance showcased in the first act. Gorgeous remix from Erdi.
The companion piece 'Among Strangers' finds the Magnetic Brothers crafting another groovy and moderately tripped out production. A chunky groove sets the stage for a squirrelly, spaced out lead flanked by aquatic designs. The main break may be the highlight though with a journey into esoteric tones and mystical textures. Breaking up the haze is a growling stab which quickly summons the beats back for a wicked dance floor moment. Unique and original work from the Magnetic Brothers.
The lone interpretation of 'Among Strangers' is provided by Stergios who is making his 13th appearance on Movement Recordings. As a long time staple of the Movement artist roster Greek producer Stergios has carved out his own unique sound over that time. Warm grooves combined with timeless qualities and deep sensibilities have made Stergios a favourite in the progressive underground. For his 'Among Strangers' interpretation Stergios has taken those trippy motifs from the original and reinvented them in his own warm, fluid framework. With the focus more on an effortless groove the motifs become a touch more indistinct with the effortless drift of the track simply taking you on a serene journey. It's another enchanting production fro3m Stergios and a very fitting one to close off such a great release. Don't miss it.
