Movement Limited opens the new year by welcoming Magitman to the label for a three-track showcase. The Israeli artist has been a fixture of the electronic underground for well over a decade, laying claim to a portfolio that includes releases via Beat Boutique, DAYS like NIGHTS, Proton Music and Selador. Also finding a comfortable home on Movement Recordings, the Kiryat Gat resident has contributed two originals and three remixes since making his label debut in 2010. Following a release for his Mode Rhythm imprint to end 2021, Magitman now makes his Movement Limited debut with 'Gravity Wells'.
The release begins with the upbeat crossover vibes of the title selection. Sitting comfortably in the creative space between progressive house and techno, it's robust beats and muscular framework carry a large presence, as it moves through sequences of detailed percussion and character rich chord stabs. Cinematic pads bring further depth and emotion leading into the main break, before opening up further into a glowing reservoir and suitably thunderous drop.
The second selection 'Kite' finds Magitman crafting a funkier, disco infused slice of progressive house. Remarkably fresh, it's fragmented hooks and warm, full groove command attention, moving through rolling contours and rhythmic pulses, while sleek percussion and chirpy electronics add further spice to the journey. Warm swells initiate the main break, upping emotional response in the process, before eventually melting down to hip swinging beats and a dynamic final movement.
The release is capped off in fine fashion with the deeper moods of 'Cool Nights'. Once again marrying progressive sensibilities with disco infused motifs, Magitman layers rolling rhythmic structures and percussive waves with soulful vocal fragments and muted pianos for a colourful canopy of sound. It's a timeless and highly engaging storyboard, one which is sure to resonate on a wide range of dance floors and make for some memorable moments along the way. It rounds out three excellent productions from Magitman, who kicks off 2022 in style with a must have first project for Tash's Movement Limited!
