Tash's Movement Recordings rounds out the month of October with a new EP from Der Effekt and Avior. Hailing from Austria, Marcel Fenkart and Marco Glabonjat make up the Der Effekt production team and have amassed an impressive discography since first emerging in 2008. Top tier imprints such as Beat Boutique, Beatfreak, Freegrant, FSOE, ICONYC and UV have played host to the duo's dance floor minded creations. Also finding a home on Movement Recordings, the duo featured prominently on the second edition of the label's popular 'Prognoesis, Vol. 02' collection. Meanwhile, Swiss artist Jan Biasi aka Avior has achieved measurable success since first emerging in 2015, with Prospection Records, Lemon Juice records, Cenital Music and more have played host to his melodic sound. Now, presenting their debut collaborations, Der Effekt and Avior combine their extensive forces with 'Inception', alongside a remix from Circle of Life.
Lead selection 'Contact' finds the trio unleashing plush beats, pulsating rhythms and astral arps across a cosmic first act. Dark and mysterious heading into the main break, it's a series of percussive flurries and poignant chord changes which advances the narrative, before an emotive centrepiece and thrilling finale shifts scope further into goosebump territory. Meanwhile, 'No Fear' continues the energetic drive set by its predecessor with smooth yet powerful design, undulating grooves and clever cosmic storyboarding. Wavy arps highlight an emotive break, flowing through spine tingling modulation as waves of drums and charming pads cue a heartfelt finale. Final selection 'Running Out' finds the trio continuing on an emotional lean with cascading arps and striking chord stabs marrying across a driving first act. Spoken word vocals highlight the main break, bringing intrigue and anticipation against warm bass swells, before a thunderous drop cues an otherworldly conclusion.
Rounding out the release with the lone interpretation of 'Contact' is Circle of Life. Serbian artist Circle of Life made his Movement Recordings debut in 2019 with the well-received 'Black Light' EP. The next three years would see the Belgrade resident forge a strong bond with the label, delivering nine originals and two remixes across six excellent releases, while also landing projects for top tier imprints such as Beat Boutique, Beatfreak, Siona Records, Sprout and Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music. Now, on the strength of 'PWR', a joint EP with Movement Recordings boss Tash, Circle of Life returns to the label with a powerful take on 'Contact'. Electrically charged with perfectly manicured beats and machine gun rhythms, its cosmic appeal beams brightly from the outset. Combining fluttery arps and vibrant tonal themes with crisp percussion and striking design makes for a sleek yet poignant first act. Playful arps and timely modulation heighten the senses during a well-crafted break, bringing a hopeful slant and eventually paving the way for a stripped back drop and warm key changing finale. It rounds out an excellent artist showcase from Der Effekt and Avior, an artist trio who present their debut collaborations in fine style. Highly recommended.
