Continuing to add new talent to their roster, Astral Records welcomes Monophase (IT) to the label for their debut EP. Hailing from Italy, Francesco and Davide make up the Monophase creative collective. First emerging in 2019, the duo was quickly recognized for their dark atmospheric sound. Releases via Running Clouds, Somatic and Steyoyoke followed shortly thereafter, making the duo a fast rising act within the world of melodic house and techno. Perhaps most notable however was the duo's 'Concentrate' for DOA Electronic, a two-track showcase which was played by Tale Of Us and Kevin di Vries across the last year. Now following their latest effort for Sequence Music, Monophase makes their Astral Records debut with 'Last Shred of Light'.
As one of the biggest productions of their career, Monophase's 'Last Shred of Light' creates an electric energy from the outset. Punchy beats and contoured grooves unite for a fluid low end, while spacey effects and striking stabs add nicely to its prophetic nature. The narrative evolves as the main break takes shape, as astral arps, trance-inspired synth phrasing and glowing pads perfectly segue into a thunderous drop and epic finale.
The release concludes with 'Journey' which lands with a similarly brilliant peak time presence. Monophase masterfully synthesizes their talents into one singular ethereal vision, as phasing chord stabs and gated synths blanket punchy beats and machine gun grooves. The main break bridges the gap between cinematic tension and dancefloor drama, as the primary themes breathe in all their glory, set against a backdrop that is both colourful and emotive, before retro vocal samples cue a spirited final act.
