Astral Records opens up the new year by welcoming Leghet back to the label for a new EP. Hailing from Colombia, Leghet made his Astral debut in September of last year with a contribution to the 'Celestial' collection. Finding a nice balance between progressive and melodic house and techno, the Bogota resident's 'Andromeda' delighted the genre's crossover tastemaker's with its tough beats and vibrant melodies. Having released the majority of his recent material via UV Noir, Leghet now returns to Astral for his first EP project entitled 'Don't Look Back'.
The first selection 'Don't Look Back' sets the tone with a pulsating, hypno-groove and driving percussive arrangements. Tough and tense in equal measure, Leghet builds drama across the first act with devilish synth maneuveres and sci-fi inspired vocals forging a path into the main break. The primary theme swells further as the interlude takes shape, opening up into a colourful marriage of thematic vocals and clustered tones, before getting pulled back as the groove drops and prophetic arps take you through a spellbinding finale. The companion piece 'Elephant' lands with an equally impressive display of craftsmanship. Its techno inspired framework and timeless tonal themes lay the groundwork for fluttery synth phrasing and strong astral hooks to unite across an energetic final movement.
The release concludes with Abstraal making their label debut with the lone interpretation of 'Elephant'. Famed for their releases via Beyond Now, Black Rose, Family N.A.M.E and Somatic Records, the French duo has carved out a unique place in the world of melodic house and techno. Championed by industry heavyweights Joris Voorn, Oostil, Sasha and Digweed and Tale of Us, while performing alongside Artbat and Adana Twins, the Lyon residents now make their much-anticipated Astral debut with a thrilling take on 'Elephant'. The duo reaffirms their instinctive ability to tip a dancefloor over the edge, planting multiple explosions of serotonin through rolling grooves, spectral synths and icy drones, before confidently emerging from a contemporary break for a sweeping aerial finale.
