Track(s): Primals / Crosby Beach
Release Date: 09/02/2015
The 98th release on Tash's Movement Recordings features the debut of Yamil Colucci to the label. The Argentinean producer has been a long time favourite of Nick Warren. The famed UK DJ included one of Yamil's productions on his prestigious Balance compilation in 2011 and also invited him for a remix on his own Hope Recordings imprint in 2010. More recently Yamil closed out 2013 with a remix for Michael, Levan & Stiven Rivic's 'Topless' which marks the last released production for the Argentine. Yamil's debut release for Movement Recordings is the double a-side entitled 'Primals / Crosby Beach'.
Yamil has perhaps always been better known for his bootleg creations as opposed to his official releases. His reworks for Sasha, Rone and Michael Mayer have all been incredible and the lead track here 'Primals' is of similar magic. It's deep, hypnotic energy is quite enticing and it just grows over the records nearly eight minute duration. Smooth chord changes along with wonky tones bring the emotion higher and carry the track into the main break. Here a vocal sample helps ease the transition before the main melodic theme is unleashed to great success. The beats then quickly return and the cleverly constructed keys along with nearly inaudible vocal elements produce a great conclusion.
The companion piece 'Crosby Beach' is a much housier affair with funky bass hooks and driving rhythms leading the charge. As with all Yamil Colucci productions there is a great dance floor sensibility but also a profound emotional element. The main break allows the bouncy grooves to subside just long enough for a poignant theme to work its magic and transition the piece back to the groove for a rocking conclusion. Two outstanding cuts from Yamil who along with Movement Recordings get 2015 off to a great start.
